History of the Towelers
Mill Roots: Formed by employees of Cannon Mills—once the world's largest towel and sheet manufacturer
Carolina Textile League: Competed as a top semi-pro mill team in the mid-1930s, drawing massive local crowds
Professional Era: Shifted to independent minor league play in the Carolina League (1936–1938) and the Class D North Carolina State League (1939–1941), winning league titles in 1940 and 1941
Modern Legacy: Honored today by their modern descendant, the Kannapolis Cannon Ballers
